Although basement bars typically are considered neither a pro nor a con in a home sale, real estate professionals say the rising cost of alcoholic beverages, the popularity of the show “Mad Men,” and the release of flavored vodkas have more home buyers interested in these amenities. John Young Realtors broker James Matarazzo Jr. says, “If you can watch the game on your big-screen TV beside your own home bar, that’s cost-efficient living.” He adds that many buyers also look for outdoor entertainment spaces, but a basement bar will allow them to entertain during the winter months.
