Real estate agents say buyers generate opinions about a home in the first 15 seconds of viewing it from the outside, and many will not walk through the door if they do not like what they see from the curb. “In those first seconds, a client will judge the home based on the outward appearance and decide whether they can see their family growing up there,” says Adam Atherton of Imagine Real Estate in Indiana. To make a better first impression, experts recommend replacing front door mats; replacing or repainting the front door; replacing broken or tarnished porch lights, mailboxes, and house numbers; and installing a porch swing, a bench, or a couple of chairs.
