Seven in 10 U.S. adults are out of the loop about down-payment help for middle-income home buyers in their community, based on the second annual America at Home survey. “Down-payment assistance programs make home purchasing more accessible for first-time buyers,” according to Marietta Rodriguez of NeighborWorks America, which commissioned the research. “In addition, because many down-payment assistance programs require home-buyer education, these purchasers tend to be more successful in the long term.” Hundreds of millions of dollars in down-payment aid are up for grabs, with NeighborWorks itself doling out more than $100 million to 6,000 people in 2013. | Read More
