More and more Realtors are recognizing the important role that pets play in people’s lives — and in their search for a second home, since dogs and other animals tend to travel with their owners on vacation. A number of realty companies in big cities have carved a niche out of catering to buyers with animal companions and helping them to find pet-friendly communities. “Many of our clients refuse to even travel to look at potential properties without bringing their four-legged friends,” notes Marian Schaffer of Southeast Discovery, a realty and consultancy business that specializes in retirement and second homes. She places pet-friendly, vacation-home amenities into one of two categories: natural or purposeful.
