Zillow says minor home improvements, not full-on remodeling, are the most cost-effective ways to increase home values. The Zillow Digs survey indicates that sellers get more bank for their buck with five low-cost improvement projects: increasing curb appeal by painting the front door and adding fresh potted flowers; staging the home with neutral colors and minimal furniture; changing lighting fixtures and cabinet or door handles and undertaking minor kitchen and bathroom updates; decluttering; and installing granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
