French designer Aurelién Barbry’s new additions to Skagerak’s Plank Bench expand upon a simple design that’s become integral to the brand’s outdoor furniture collection. The original 2018 release is now complemented by the Plank Table and the Plank Chair, creating an enduring collection for relaxing and entertaining outdoors that will be released in early 2023.
“The Plank Bench is the result of an idea to challenge the function of the ubiquitous seating design, and an investigation into how I could design this piece of furniture differently. I wanted to use a minimum of materials and create something airy, playful, modern, and easy to build,” said Barbry. “The new table and chair use the same design language, and together with the bench, offer a complete outdoor furniture set-up.”
The bench and chairs tuck neatly into both sides of the Plank Table in various versatile combinations. Its slatted surface and sturdiness provides plenty of space for dining and more, with the Plank Chair following suit in the same aesthetic. Wide-set wood slats and a slanted back with a ledge at the top make for beautiful seating.
All three pieces in the Plank collection are crafted in solid FSCTM-certified teak and stainless steel fittings. Over time, and with minimal maintenance, the pieces will weather to develop a silver-grey hue patina. The series is sold as flat packs, eliminating packaging waste and further engaging the user with Barbry’s designs.
