There were 66,862 interstate residential moves in 2013, 10.8 percent of which weighed 16,000 pounds or more, according to Allied Van Lines. Most of these moves involved corporate relocations. Allied estimates that it costs about $11,500 to $13,000 to move 16,000 pounds of belongings 1,000 miles, roughly the distance between New York and Florida. The company says Texas reported the biggest net gain in heavy-weight, high-value moves last year, with gains also reported in South Carolina and Florida. Meanwhile, more high-value households moved out of Illinois and Pennsylvania than moved in.
